Hayes School Drama Department is a vibrant, dynamic and ever-expanding concern. Drama is one of the most popular subjects, enjoyed by many, irrespective of acting talent and is offered at every Key Stage, with our examination results at GCSE and A-Level consistently placing us among the school’s highest-achieving subjects. We are fortunate to have two Drama Studios, both equipped with stage lighting, and a large Hall for productions.

In the days of specialisms, Drama was a featured subject in the school’s Arts Specialist status, developing vital links with the community, local Primary Schools and partner Secondary Schools, as well as promoting the use of practical teaching and learning techniques across the curriculum.

In all Key Stages, Drama leads the way in uptake, attainment and achievement.

Over 100 students study GCSE Drama across Years 10 and 11, and around 20 a year are taking A Level, numbers that are considerably above the national average. Our GCSE and A Level results consistently place us in the top 10% and top 25% of schools nationally.

In recent years the department has been able to greatly expand the opportunities and skills available to students at Hayes, expanding Drama beyond the confines of performance and into production. The facilities in the hall and studios have been completely overhauled with thousands of pounds of lighting and sound equipment and a complete digital refit enabling us to introduce technical options to the curriculum and develop a skilled and enthusiastic Tech Group who now operate the majority of school events.
