Curriculum » Computer Science and ICT
We believe that every student at Hayes School should be able to use a variety of industry standard software and hardware. As such, the students at Hayes study a range of applications using standard desktops and software, including Office and the Adobe creative suite. Students use a range of coding software including Kodu, Scratch, App inventor, Python, VBnet, C++ and Javascript.
Key Stage 3
Year 7
Students cover a range of skills from e-safety to basic programming. The units covered are:
E-safety and the elements of computers, Spreadsheets with advanced formula, Databases, Kodu coding and using PowerPoints effectively
Year 8
Students take a step into the working world of the computer. The units covered are:
Knowledge of Computers, Scratch coding and Webpage Design.
Year 9
Students complete a range of projects designed to inform their option choices for Key Stage 4 and to provide them with the software skills they will need to use for the rest of their education and in the working world. The units covered are:
Designing and building a website, Creating Spreadsheet Models, Coding in Python and using Business Software.
Key Stage 4
In Year 10 and 11 students can opt for Computer Science OCR GCSE and/or Pearson BTEC Tech Award Digital Information Technology.
Key Stage 5
In Year 12 and 13 students can opt for OCR A level Computer Science and/or Pearson BTEC National Extended Certificate in ICT.
We have a dynamic team of staff who thoroughly enjoy teaching students a range of relevant skills and an understanding that will prepare them for the increasingly competitive university and job markets.
