At KS5 (years 12 and 13) students can opt to study music (OCR) and/or music technology (Edexcel) to A level. The courses break down as follows:
Music A level:
25% or 35% performing (recorded recital, marked externally),
25% or 35% composing and harmonic techniques,
40% exam (classical and jazz set works, listening, two further Areas of Study). The standard of performance required is at least grade 6 difficulty. Fluency in reading and writing conventional staff notation is essential.
Music technology A level:
40% coursework (multi-track recording, technology-based composition),
25% listening and analysing exam,
35% producing and analysing exam.
