Sports at Hayes

Whilst academic rigour is central to all that we do at Hayes Sixth Form, we recognise the role that sport can play in the personal development of all our students. Sport provides our students with help and support to improve their overall physical health, promotes positive emotional well-being and teaches students important wider skills such as team working, communication and leadership.

Hayes School Sixth Form boasts a vast array of talented sportsmen and women who specialise in a range of sports. The majority of our Sixth Form students will take part in Football, Basketball, Netball and Rugby, but a large number also participate in a range of other sports which we support through increased timetable flexibility and access to our on-site fitness suite.

We have a number of links with specialist coaches who, in conjunction with the PE department, work with students to improve their fitness and skills. Our students represent the school in national competitions through a full fixture programme. Many of our students go on to represent the country and compete nationally and internationally in their chosen sports. We pride ourselves on providing our students with the opportunities to showcase their skills on a national scale, often as part of winning teams in a range of competitions and tournaments.

Sporting Talent Pathway

Whilst we encourage mass participation in sport by all members of our Sixth Form community, we seek to recruit and develop talented sportsmen and women as part of our Sporting Talent Pathway (STP). These talented individuals have access to an additional programme of activities including personalised Strength and Conditioning sessions led by a professional S&C coach, Physiotherapy sessions and additional talks and workshops in Sports Nutrition, Sports Psychology and Speed/Sprint coaching to name a few. Our partnership with Brunel University provides the opportunity for our most talented sports performers in a range of sports to receive part and sully funded Sports Scholarships to attend Brunel University. Amongst the current Year 13 four pupils have received scholarship offers to attend Brunel University next year. This is alongside students playing at a National and International level in a range of sports.

As a member of the STP students are expected to attend and participate in all training sessions, embody the school’s values and ethos as well as immersing themselves in the training sessions of our younger Hayes students as a sports leader. We are immensely proud of the number of students who have gone into Elite level and Professional sport and feel this programme provides an excellent foundation for students to achieve this.

Hayes Trailfinders Academy (Rugby)

Talented rugby players have the chance to be part of the Hayes Trailfinders Academy programme run in conjunction with Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club. This provides boys and girls the opportunity to develop into elite rugby players. The programme allows pupils to combine their studies alongside additional rugby sessions, strength and conditioning and video analysis. Players also have the opportunity to attend additional Elite Player Pathway sessions locally and centralised sessions at Ealing and Brunel University.

At the end of their study we also offer our students with the opportunity to apply for a one year full time contract to work as a PE Teaching Assistant within school to develop their skills and leadership capabilities further before embarking on their chosen next steps.

We are a forward-thinking school and Physical Education department who have fostered and developed some incredibly exciting partnerships to enhance student provision with links to Ealing Trailfinders, Brunel University, Old Wilsonians, The Warren, Crystal Palace Foundation, Becchamians RFC, and Hayes CC.

Students wishing to apply for the Sporting Talent Pathway must make a full application to our Sixth Form by the deadline date and complete the additional section of the application form.
